Ascension Church

A place where multi-generational families come together to love God, love one another, and love those in the wider community (Up-In-Out)

The Church of the Ascension has long been a cornerstone of the Oldfield Park community, fostering relationships with the local school, community groups, and families for generations. Set in Claude Avenue, we offer a pattern of both traditional and contemporary services on Sundays across both Marlbrook churches. Additionally, we are excited to announce the launch of new communities in Oldfield Park, aimed at reaching out to new people.

Ascension Heart

History
While recent years have brought challenges – including the loss of older members and the impact of the pandemic – our congregation remains vibrant, resilient, and full of opportunities for growth and fellowship. Under the joint leadership of St. Michael’s Rector and our dedicated lay reader, Clare, Ascension has embraced change with grace. Initiatives like shared worship during the energy crisis have deepened our fellowship with St. Michael’s congregation, building lasting connections and a united vision for serving our community.

Worship and Outreach
Our worship is diverse, with reflective 9am services offering modern liturgy, hymns, and moments of quiet reflection, alongside lively 10:30am services filled with contemporary worship, testimonies, and thanksgiving. Both services are enriched by the contributions of our dedicated lay members, from leading intercessions to welcoming others.

Beyond services, we gather in ways that build strong bonds including the Missional Communities above.

Community
We’re also committed to nurturing young hearts and minds. Our children’s work, led by our youth worker, is growing, with creative Bible-based activities and renewed connections with local schools.

Regular events like the Christingle service and partnerships with community groups such as Scouts, Guides and a pre-school ensure our church remains a hub of activity and outreach, including a Moravian church meet weekly in our buildings.

At Ascension, every member is valued and encouraged to contribute. Whether it’s leading a service, sharing a testimony, or simply washing up after a community lunch, everyone plays a part in building our church family. We’re proud to be a welcoming community where individuals of all backgrounds and abilities are empowered to thrive and grow in their faith journey. As we look to the future, we remain rooted in kindness, humility, and a desire to see God’s love transform lives – both within our congregation and in the wider community.
