Missional Communities
Join us on the exciting journey of becoming a part of our extended family of Jesus’ followers, united in the mission to love God, one another, and those who are lost.
What is a Missional Community?
Missional Communities are great examples of missional and discipleship activity at Marlbrook. They extend our reach, enabling us to share His love with even more people.
We believe church isn’t confined to Sundays alone. It’s the people and community combined that shape our identity as a church, and MCs are a key part of God’s plan to help us do this.
MCs are mid-sized groups, formed around a shared missional passion or purpose. They serve as spaces where individuals are recognised, supported, and inspired to deepen their relationships with one another while nurturing their growth as disciples of Jesus, aligning with our church’s vision. They provide a unique platform for leadership development, skill refinement, and the practice of spiritual gifts – something often constrained within a Sunday service context. Above all, they radiate an outward-focused approach and are easy to join.
If you haven’t yet connected with an MC, we encourage you to reach out to one of our leaders; they’d be delighted to welcome you!

We are an MC with a focus on the seasoned generations. Named Roots & Shoots, we are firmly grounded in faith, seeking to welcome others through our social activities.
Our vision is to connect with individuals who may be living independently or experiencing social isolation. This includes those who are single or in couples.
We gently explore Christianity through Bible readings. Our gatherings follow this schedule every Thursday:
- On the 1st and 3rd week, we have a home communion.
- In the 2nd week, we meet at Rose Cottage for coffee and a Bible study.
- In the 4th week, we enjoy a home prayer meeting
We've found deeper connections within our community, made new friends, and relished the opportunity to share the good news, which we hope to continue.

We're known as Agapē (pronounced "aga-pay"), reaching out to those who often go unnoticed - individuals not on the traditional invite lists and those navigating chaotic lifestyles.
Our core mission revolves around spreading the word of God with a strong emphasis on Scripture. Agape signifies God's love, symbolising that there's always a seat at His table and ours, where meals are freely shared. Here, there's always space, and it's always on us.
We meet at Rose Cottage, usually one to two times a week. While it's primarily word-of-mouth, we encourage you to bring along friends, and we also run a WhatsApp group for easy connections.
Every Tuesday night, we delve deep into Bible study, accompanied by a meal. On alternate Sundays, we come together for a more relaxed Bible study, also over a shared meal.
One of our happiest moments is witnessing individuals coming to Christ and making a commitment to be baptised!

At Wild Church, we're all about creating a welcoming and inclusive community for families with children under 12 in Twerton. Our mission is to embody the spirit of unity, love, and shared purpose found in Jesus' teachings.
We gather in a beautiful woodland setting, within St Michael’s Junior School’s ground on Newton Road. Every 2nd and 4th Sunday at 2:30pm we come together to enjoy campfires, family games, delicious treats, heartfelt testimonies, craft activities based on biblical themes, and warm cups of hot chocolate. It's all about having fun, offering support, and growing in our faith.
Our greatest achievement? Bringing Twerton families into our church community with the hope that they'll discover Jesus as their savior. We offer a relaxed and inviting atmosphere where genuine friendships thrive, and where we get to witness children forming lasting Christian connections.
Join us and be part of something special!

Led by Scott Wheatly, the Bell Ringing Group at St. Michael’s Church is rooted in faith, community, and the joyful tradition of bell ringing. “For me, it’s always been about Jesus and community,” Scott shares. “When I joined the church, I knew I wanted to ring bells—and I wasn’t alone. Thanks to a series of coincidences, two members of the Bell Ringers Association now join us weekly to teach and mentor.”
Since its start, the group has grown into a welcoming community hub open to all, with members ranging from 18 to 80 years old. We meet every Thursday evening, beginning with coffee and a chat at 6:45 p.m., before delving into practice from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Everyone is invited, whether new to bell ringing or a seasoned pro.
It's about so much more than just the sound of bells resonating through the air. It’s about building meaningful connections and fostering a sense of community. For our younger members, it offers a space where they are genuinely seen and valued; we take an active interest in their lives, offering support and encouragement as they navigate their studies, careers, and personal journeys. It’s a place where they can truly belong and feel cared for.
For our older members, the group is a welcoming space of companionship and purpose. Many find solace in the regular meetings, cherishing the friendships and camaraderie formed over coffee and shared experiences. For others its the simplicity of a cherished routine—something to look forward to with joy and anticipation.
Our practice sessions emphasise learning the nuances of handling ropes and building muscle memory through repetition. Our weekly efforts culminate with Sunday bell ringing—a reminder to the community that Jesus is present and the doors of St. Michael’s are always open! And as we pull on the ropes, it's a reminder that we strengthen not only our skills but the bonds that make this community so special.
Having only started in July 2023, the group is relatively new yet has a clear vision is to grow missional impact. Social outings and collaborations with other churches and charities are on the horizon, including a potential trip to Bath Abbey to observe their bells in action. The group are also looking into sponsored ringing events to fund bell restoration.
With interest growing and community bonds strengthening, the ringing bells at St. Michael’s are not just sounds in the air—they’re the echoes of connection and the joy of a shared calling.

Bread & Bread is a warm and welcoming space where we come together every Tuesday evening to meet, share a meal, and explore the Bible. This gathering centers on the simple yet profound principle: we share a meal as we share our lives and faith.
Why We Gather:
The heart of Bread & Bread is about making and nurturing disciples. Some attendees are drawn by the community and meal, while others are curious about who Jesus is and what He has done. Over time, many have grown to know Christ personally. The core of Bread & Bread is systematically studying the bible and through it learning more about God and more about ourselves.
Who Is Welcome?
Everyone is invited! Whether you’re from the local area, new to church life, or simply looking for a place to connect, you’re welcome to come, sit, share, listen, and learn to pray with us. We believe in creating an open and environment where all can get to know and understad God’s love.
A Moment of Reflection:
Recently, as we read through John 15, one of our participants shared how deeply she felt God’s love during the reading. Moments like these remind us of the power of God’s word and the strength of community. As friendships form and lives change we've been fortunate to attract more friends, family, and neighbours who are curious about the transformation they see.
If you’re looking for a place to belong, learn, and grow, join us for Bread & Bread every Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Lighthouse Centre. We look forward to welcoming you.

What started as a generous donation of a 7.1 surround sound system has grown into something special - a Film Club at Ascension. Twice a month, we gather in the church hall to enjoy films together, welcoming everyone from the local community to join in.
A Space for Everyone
The Film Club is open to all. It’s not just about watching movies; it’s about creating a space for connection. Whether you’re a regular churchgoer, someone who’s never stepped inside a church, or just looking for something to do on a Friday night, you’re welcome here.
It’s a wonderful opportunity to invite friends who may not be part of church life - building a bridge between the church and the wider community. We’ve grown from six attendees to a lively group of eighteen, with people of all ages, backgrounds and interests.
More Than a Cinema
This isn’t just about screening films; it’s about enjoying them together and engaging in meaningful conversations afterward. While some prefer to head straight home after the film, others stay to discuss what they’ve watched. These discussions often touch on fascinating topics - moral dilemmas, controversies, or themes that resonate with life and faith.
Stories of Transformation
The Film Club has become a stepping stone for people to connect with the church in unexpected ways. One attendee started by coming to film nights, then joined us for our community lunch, and eventually became part of our worship team. Another rediscovered her faith and her place in our community through the club.
These stories highlight how the Film Club serves as a building block in our mission to foster relationships, encourage faith, and bring people closer to God.
What to Expect
- A wide variety of films to enjoy together.
- Free tea, coffee, and popcorn!
- Warm conversations and a welcoming community.
Whether you’re a film enthusiast, someone looking to make new connections, or just curious, we’d love to see you there. Bring a friend, grab some popcorn, and settle in for a great evening!

Every two weeks, Ascenion comes alive with the warmth of community and the aroma of fresh, oven-baked jacket potatoes. Held after the church service, our Community Lunch welcomes everyone - whether you’ve just attended the service or are joining us solely for lunch.
At the heart of the meal is simplicity and inclusivity. We serve fresh jacket potatoes cooked onsite, accompanied by a selection of vegetarian toppings: salad, coleslaw, beans, and vegan cheese. There’s something for everyone to enjoy as we share in this God-inspired time of fellowship.
The idea for the Community Lunch was born out of a desire to create a space for connection. For some, it’s a chance to chat and deepen friendships after church. For others, it’s an opportunity to join in a shared meal rather than spending Sunday lunch alone.
This simple act of eating together has had a profound effect on our church family. People feel more included and valued, which we’ve witnessed in beautiful ways - like seeing individuals take on new responsibilities and roles within the church, even those who don’t regularly attend services.
It’s more than just a meal. It’s a time to listen, encourage, and grow together as a community.
Come as you are - there’s always room at the table. Whether for the food or the fellowship, we’d love to have you with us!

Our Board Games Missional Community is a fun and welcoming way to connect with others! We gather every other Sunday after the community lunch to enjoy an afternoon of games, laughter, and fellowship.
Whether you’re into strategy games, party games, or just looking to meet new friends, there’s something for everyone! Members of all ages come together to share in the joy of community and create lasting memories over a wide range of board games.
No experience is needed - just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to have fun.
Come for the games and stay for the friendships. Everyone is welcome! We’d love to see you there!

Looking for a warm and friendly space where your little ones can play, explore, and make friends? Join us at Marlbrook Minis, our toddler group for families with children aged 0-5. Every Friday during term time from 10:00-11:30 am, we gather at the Lighthouse Centre to share fun, creativity, and connection.
Children can enjoy a variety of toys, crafts, and activities, with crafts inspired by the weekly story we’re exploring in church. There’s always a snack for the children and refreshments for parents.
Our group is more than just playtime; it’s about building community and gives parents and carers the chance to meet others navigating similar stages of life while introducing little ones to the wonderful stories of Jesus through songs and storytelling.
We’ve seen the impact already – eight families regularly join us, with new faces arriving every week. Some have even started exploring other church activities like Wild Church and family events. It’s a joy to see connections grow and community thrive.
Whether you’re new to the area or simply looking for a safe and welcoming space for your family, we’d love to see you at Marlbrook Minis!
